It is located in a most secluded part of Gulf of Kotor. The old Mediterranean port of Kotor, surrounded by an impressive city wall built by Republic of Venice and the Venetian influence remains dominant among the architectural influences. The Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska), one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea is sometimes called the southern-most fjord in Europe (though it is actually a submerged river canyon). With the nearly overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovćen one of the great Mediterranean landscapes is created. Kotor je grad na obali Bokokotorskog zaliva u Crnoj Gori. Stara mediteranska kotorska luka, okružena impresivnim gradskim zidinama, je vrlo dobro sačuvana i pod zaštitom je UNESKO-a, kao svetska kulturna baština. Između 1420-1797 Kotor je sa okolinom pripadao Veneciji pa je venecijanski uticaj ostavio trag na gradskoj arhitekturi. Kotorski zaliv (Boka Kotorska) jedan je od najdubljih i najdužih zaliva na Jadranskom moru pa se često naziva najjužnijim fjordom Evrope. U stvari, to je potopljeni kanjon reke. Litice Orjena i Lovćena koje natkriljuju grad predstavljaju jedan od najveličanstevnijih predela na Mediteranu. Poslednjih godina sve je veći broj turista koje privlače kako prirodna lepota Boke Kotorske tako i sam stari kotorski grad.
